I first met John (Pip) when I was posted to Malaya in 1969. Both of us were posted to Singapore 1 year later when the Terendak camp closed. During the Singapore period, we formed a very close friendship and included Gus Gosling. In September 1970, I married Christine who unfortunately died in March 2021.
Pip was my best man and did a great job with the exception that he lost several taxis full of wedding presents. He was also at my 21st Birthday in Hong Kong which was very memorable. We then went to 59 Independent Commando Squadron and we said cheerio in 1976. I did manage to get to his home where both he and Dean gave me a hammering at golf.
As my best friend for many years, it breaks my heart to think that he has passed away having suffered so much. I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to you all, especially Tish who I knew in the very early days.
I am sorry that I cannot attend the funeral as I am still in hospital, and will not be out until after you have said goodbye. I will certainly be thinking of you and hopefully we will meet again in the Squadron Bar.
God Bless Tish, Dean, Tania and the extended family
Love to you all
